Jelly Tots remind me of England because they’re pretty popular there, and as it turns out, they’re also super popular in South Africa and Australia!
Jelly Tots are basically tiny gumdrops jellies that taste like fruit and are lightly covered in granulated sugar. They’re chewy and the texture is not unlike a jube jube, soft but dense. I think part of the appeal of Jelly Tots are their small size. Each one is about the size of a dime (or even a little smaller) so you can easily pop a few in your mouth at a time for a delicious fruit medley.
They also make Jelly Tots with milk chocolate coating. I thought they were not great….the chocolate shell combined with the chewing jelly made for an odd texture. Also, I could taste the granulated sugar underneath the chocolate and it made this treat too sweet. Unlike original Jelly Tots, the chocolate covered ones are not something I think I’ll gravitate towards in the future.
Have you ever had Jelly Tots or chocolate covered Jelly Tots? What are your thoughts?
Enjoy the sweet stuff,
